Birkenhead BID presents Light up Birkenhead! in Hamilton Square
The countdown to Christmas starts in Birkenhead on 16th November as the towns festive lights are switched on at the free ‘Light up Birkenhead’ event in front of the magnificent town hall in Hamilton Square.
Light up Birkenhead will bring residents and visitors together to start the celebration of the most festive time of the year when thousands of visitors are expected which will see local hero and Olympic Gold Medallist, Sam Quek have the honour of turning on the lights.
Supported by Wirral Council and Wirral Radio, there will be live broadcasts and the square will come to life with music, song, food and drink, together with Beauty and the Beast Panto provided by Gladstone Theatre and school choir performances. Gravity over Distance will warm up the crown with their exciting trampoline act and choirs, from Liscard Primary, Bedford Drive Primary and Woodland Primary Schools.
Families will be able to enjoy face painting and get to meet the Christmas Elves who will spread festive cheer among the crowds. The ever-popular Birdie Camper Van photo booth experience will provide props and pictures to help everyone get in the spirit and take home a memento of the event. Stalls offering food and drink will include Mad Batter, who will provide refreshments including waffles, milkshakes, smoothies and hot drinks, and the Chocolate Celler who will be offering chocolates and hot drinks. Mulled wine (perfect to keep hands warm) and soft drinks will be provided by Prosecco Peddlars and Lily Foods (Suk Hothai) will bring an oriental flavour with a range of authentic Thai food.
This is a free event and will be held between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday 16th November 2017.
Birkenhead Loves Christmas last year attracted over 2,000 people to an evening of music, song and performances by local communities, expertly compered by Wirral Radio. The event aimed at supporting local businesses by reinforcing the message that Birkenhead is open and ready for the festive season.
Paula Basnett, CEO of Wirral Chamber of Commerce said: “Birkenhead BID is committed to supporting the town’s economy and we are delighted to deliver this amazing, free event. We are confident that it will attract families, and bring shoppers and visitors into the town, which in turn will support local businesses at a key period of the retail calendar. We are very grateful to the various business and communities which have helped in supporting this event.”
