Birkenhead BID Patronage for The Hive

The Hive, Wirral’s purpose-built youth facility, has welcomed Birkenhead BID to its network of founder patrons, securing vital funding that will help it support thousands of young people across the borough.

As a Founder Patron, Birkenhead BID will make a significant contribution towards The Hive’s annual running costs, ensuring the state-of-the-art youth facility can deliver its mission of providing young people in Wirral with something to do, somewhere to go and someone to talk to. The Hive is funded through a combination of public and private sector funding and relies on patron support to secure 50% of its £1 million annual running costs.

Birkenhead Bid is Wirral’s first Business Improvement District (BID), set up with the support of local business to improve the promotion of Birkenhead as a visitor destination focussed on the following four key themes: cleanliness & attractiveness, safety & security, marketing & promotion, together with supporting businesses.

Officially launched in April 2016, Birkenhead Bid encourages visitors and greater investment in Birkenhead town centre by working with all business sectors to enhance the overall experience for visitors, shoppers and workers within the BID area.

In recognition of Birkenhead BID’s patronage, The Hive presented a founder plaque to the organisation at a special ceremony held at the Youth Zone. Paula Basnett, CEO of Wirral Chamber of Commerce, spoke on behalf of the Birkenhead BID, she said, “The work which both The Hive and Birkenhead Bid carry out is very important for the future of the area.  Birkenhead Bid has undertaken a number of key initiatives since its formation and there are clear indications that it has made a positive impact in making Birkenhead a better place, particularly in helping future generations which will be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and who will have pride in the town.
Paula added, “In supporting The Hive we understand and applaud the initiative and the great success which is being created, so Birkenhead Bid is delighted to a become a Founder Member and look forward to working closely with The Hive in the months ahead.”

Located in the centre of Birkenhead, The Hive has been purpose-built to provide young people with a safe and positive environment where they can enjoy a wide range of activities which include: learning new skills, raising their aspirations and realising their full potential. The facility has already attracted more than 6000 young Members to-date and has been recognised by Birkenhead’s community police for helping to reduce anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area.

The Hive hope the Birkenhead BID funding will be mutually beneficial - Stuart Barnes, Chief Executive of The Hive explains, “We are hugely grateful for this commitment from Birkenhead BID, which will enable us to support their objective of making Birkenhead town centre a better place to visit, shop, work, invest and do business. We offer a great diversion for young people while their parents and guardians shop in the town centre and we have received positive feedback from both the police and local retailers regarding the impact we’ve had on anti-social behaviour here. With Birkenhead BID’s backing, we can build on this success and help to make Birkenhead a great place to be.”
