Progress to Excellence strikes gold for people development

Progress to Excellence has again struck gold – achieving one of the UK’s highest accolades for people development.
The company has once more gained accreditation against the 6th Generation Investors in People Gold standard, placing it among the top four percent of organisations in the country to receive the award.

The standard is only given to those that can demonstrate excellence in developing and supporting its staff and reflects the very latest workplace trends to help every employee be the best they can.

To obtain the gold award, Progress to Excellence had to prove how the company uses its people strategies to achieve outstanding standards and deliver excellence in teaching and learning. The rigorous assessment involved staff interviews with issues raised including personal development, their contribution to the business and corporate social responsibility.

Investors in People assessor Joanne Hamilton said: “The gold accreditation was a great achievement last year for a first time assessment against the sixth generation standard, given the added stretch that the new standard and assessment process now brings.”

Since the organisation’s last full assessment 12 months ago, she said, the business had continued to grow at a significant rate, with staff numbers having increased from 74 to 130, and was continuing to work towards its ambition of creating “a brilliant service for lifelong learning where all our learners fulfil their potential and where we are seen as the provider of choice for employers, employees and stakeholders”.

As well as fulfilling high-performance benchmarks for staff development, a corporate social responsibility strategy at Progress to Excellence was highlighted by Investors in People as part of its assessment.

Commendation was given to the company’s CSR “vision” due to its implementation in the workplace of the government’s Disability Confident employment scheme and a partnership with MENCAP which provided work experience placements.

Investors in People also singled out the annual Progress to Excellence Training and Education Awards, being held this year on Wednesday, October 25 at the Liverpool Crowne Plaza, for its focus on recognising learners’ achievements.

Joanne Hamilton added: “This annual event is something about which people frequently spoke very positively at the last assessment and it very much gives them a ‘feel good factor’ in working for the organisation.”

Damian Burdin, Chief Executive at Progress to Excellence Ltd, said: “We are delighted to once again have achieved this Gold standard.

“A successful business has to have the best interests of employees at its heart and the ethos at Progress to Excellence is about encouraging staff to develop their careers and make the most of their talents. This way, we are able to keep people within the business and ensure that excellent standards are delivered.”

Earlier this year, Progress to Excellence was named as a finalist in the Investors in People Awards 2017 in the category of Gold Employer of the Year with 50 to 249 Employees. Recognising and celebrating the best workplaces in the UK, the awards ceremony will take place in November.
