Wirral New Music Collective - Live Music Innovation Fund

The Wirral New Music Collective need bands with big ideas to take advantage of their Live Music Innovation Fund. If you're ready for the Birkenhead big time, read on:

Wirral New Music Collective is an independent group of record labels, music writers, promoters, visual artists, artist managers, magazine publishers and musicians who believe in music’s power to shape a new future for Wirral. Our borough has an enviable music heritage and an unrelenting capacity to produce nationally and internationally significant artists. Yet, at present, we don’t have a single live venue dedicated to new music and little infrastructure to support the local music community.

Wirral New Music Collective is here as a first step to change this. Thanks to The Beautiful Ideas Company and Wirral Borough Council, we have set up a live music innovation fund which will provide a series of £500 grants for local musicians, promoters or music lovers – anyone with a great idea – to put on an innovative live gig in Wirral this summer (May-September 2018).

We are looking for the most ambitious, outlandish, interesting and fantastic. That may be a night of experimental electronica in Birkenhead Priory, heavy dub in Woodside Ferry Terminal, twisted anti-folk in Birkenhead Library or frenetic post-punk in Gallagher’s. It could be a German techno DJ or a touring Americana artist with a support bill of local talent. It could be exclusively local talent.

The scope is only limited by your imagination.

All we stipulate is that the show needs to take place in Wirral and needs to feature at least 50% Wirral artists on the bill. We encourage applications for shows across Wirral, but there is a particular emphasis on shows taking place in Birken-head: we imagine at least 50% of shows supported will take place in Birkenhead. If the show breaks even, we ask that a percentage of the profits go back into the pot so that we can go on commissioning more live shows in the future. The specifics of this can be discussed on a show by show basis.

Not only will our selected live gigs receive £500, successful applicants will be invited to a regular monthly meet-up and will receive the support of the Wirral New Music Collective to help realise their project. The selected shows will also receive extensive promotion across our collective networks.

To submit your idea, fill out this form. The closing date for applications is FRIDAY 6TH APRIL 2018.
